What is Micro-Needling & what does it do?

It often seems there are new skincare products and techniques making the news every week.

Understanding more about these new services and how you may benefit is important.

You've likely been aware of Micro-Needling and wondered exactly how it works.

Although the technique has been available for a few years, it has really gained traction recently and has become one of the most requested options at Solace Skin & Laser in Jackson, Tennessee.

The name itself sounds a bit alarming, but there's no need for concern. To be clear, the treatment is a procedure which does puncture the surface layer of the skin, but they are a group of very tiny needles and are not 'placed' into your skin like acupuncture.

Instead, the procedure utilizes a device featuring several of these tiny needles rolling over your skin. It sounds as if it would be uncomfortable, but very little discomfort is reported, as the device is designed to puncture the skin at a superficial level.

What is IPL and does it reduce or elminate redness, brown spots and more?

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light, and the Cutera Limelight IPL system at Solace Skin & Laser is a powerful treatment targeting superficial hyperpigmentation, discoloration, broken or damaged capillaries, and skin redness (Rosacea).

The Cutera Laser reduces blue leg veins (tiny superficial face veins too) by utilizing pulses of light energy causing the blood in the vein to coagulate, eliminating the offending blood vessel which is later absorbed by your body. Blood flow is redirected to veins further under the surface, where they should be.

Many physicians and patients prefer Cutera Laser Vein Therapy because there are no painful injections. 7 Steps for an easy peel process:

Talk to us about your home skin care routine when booking your appointment. If you're using retinoid or tretinoin products, you'll want to discontinue them for 3 days before your peel. You'll also likely want to avoid other cosmetic procedures in the weeks before your peel, so let us know if you're planning anything stronger than a facial.
Take a break from your workout. Peels purposefully create a controlled, minor injury to your skin to stimulate growth of healthy new skin cells. Under this circumstance it's best to avoid sweating or heating your skin. Gentle yoga, stretching, or taking a walk is find as long as you don't break a sweat. Swimming pools, hot tubs, and saunas are also off limits until your skin has healed.
Protect against cold sores. If you're prone to cold sores (about 80% of the population deals with them), be aware that a chemical procedure can trigger an outbreak. So be sure to ask your doctor for an antiviral to be taken several days before your peel.
Come to your appointment with a clean face and a hat. If possible wear little or no makeup to your appointment, especially if you intend to peel the skin around the eyes. It's not absolute, but it does make prep go quicker and easier. Since you won't apply any products after the peel (not even SPF), it's a good idea to wear a hat on the drive back, to avoid sun exposure.
Follow the instructions. We've created a protocol that supports this process and results. Be sure to read each step in the take home booklet and follow the recommendations.
Avoid any critical work or social plans for Days 3-6 post peel. We classify 'Day 1' as the day of your peel appointment. On Day 2, the skin may feel sensitive and right. Days 3-4 or even 3-6, you will visibly peel. Not the best time for a first date or important presentation at work. ;) We advise having your peel at least 2 weeks or more before any SUPER important events (ie: weddings, etc).
Protect your skin and prolong the results. To ensure the best possible results and avoid hyperpigmentation, be extra vigilant with daily use of a broad sprectrum SPF the first week post peel (it's a good idea anyway for life). Ask our professionals for more advice in this regard.
